The print won and Honorable Mention Award at the Art Center Sarasota, FL. Refective Dwelling is a Psychogeographic Map of sorts, attempting to map a memory about specific events in time. It will also be on display this November at OBR Gallery in San Deigo, CA.

One of my paintings won an award at the Art of Pride Show. The Art of Pride show was held outdoors in Balboa Park, San Diego. The painting is a play on identity, masks and harlequin style colors (reminiscent of PA Dutch quilts) and also plays with the identity of both the subject and the artist. This pinting along with several others in the same style attempts to examine our identities and how we navigate the social arena in person or online, and in the apps of our phones, creating new avatars and new personas with every new encounter. This painting along with the others in the series are designed to have a touch of mystery – and display a preoccupation with the issues of identity, how our identities are in a constant state of change and flux—represented by the dimensional geometric shapes that compose the body.

You never know where your creative endeavors will take you, i.e. a commission for a wooden goat. The Smoking Goat restaurant, located in San Diego CA was doing a little design upgrade and they were looking for something to be placed in a nook just outside the lobby/entranceway of the restaurant.
Thanks to Anna at Radiant Design for setting it up and getting me the gig. A few pictures of the goat carved from alder wood, I layered a number of different stains on the wood starting with a whitewash and slowly working darker in the carved areas to a walnut finish. The bistro has a number of different copper accents and copper lighting so I used copper foil "hack" for the hooves and horns. The "hack" is a faux foil, using rice paper that I painted with Golden's Iridescent Copper, when dry cut or tear the paper into small squares. The squares look just like real foil and I attached them using Matte Medium again grom Golden.
If you get to North Park in San Diego check out the restaurant and the goat located at 3408 30th Street. Overall it measures about 36 inches tall and about 34 inches wide.
…and here is the goat installed at the front door to the restaurant, at home in his little niche guarding the mail and greeting customers.
Kevin Greeland is a practicing artist and art educator living in Southern California. Kevin teaches a variety of classes in acrylic painting, bookmaking and mixed media approaches to painting and sculpture. Kevin is a certified Working Artist for Golden Artist Colors, Inc. His studio offers a wide selection of classes, workshops, and a professional lecture and demonstration series for Golden Artist Colors, Inc.
Kevin holds a Master of Fine Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science in Art Education degree. Kevin has taught art at Memphis College of Art and Vanderbilt University where he was also the Assistant Director of the Sarratt Studio Arts Program. He has taught art in public schools in California, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee and in various museum settings and art centers throughout the United States. In the 2002-2003 school year he was recognized as an outstanding art educator with a Teacher of the Year Award from Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County Public Schools. Kevin was also the owner of Parkland Art Boutique & Gallery, originally located in Sarasota, Florida.
Kevin was the recipient of a Hohenberg European Travel Fellowship and has participated in a number of residency programs, including a program at Wackers Academy in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Kevin has received numerous awards; his artwork includes painting, printmaking, handmade books, sculpture, and installations.
